NEDF Partners participated in workshops at LGBT* centre
On January 22nd, 2015, the National Equality and Diversity Forum (NEDF) visited the national LGBT* rights association LGL. The event, entitled “Identity: Gender,” was characterized by a fruitful exchange of experiences from those in attendance.
Non-governmental organizations representing vulnerable groups visited LGL’s office so as to attain a better understanding of its specificities and work. The meeting was focused on several issues, ranging from sexual orientation to gender identity issues and discrimination against LGBT* persons.
The association LGL presented upon the best practices for a consistent improvement in the field of LGBT* human rights and for the means for effective inclusion and social integration of the LGBT* community in Lithuania. NEDF partners were introduced to the organization’s mission and objectives, projects, events, educational and LGBT* community-building activities.
Attendees also had the opportunity to meet and talk in person with LGL represented groups: homosexual persons and same-sex couples. During the workshop, the exchange of experiences related to LGBT* persons’ personal histories led NEDF partners to discuss many relevant human rights issues.
Attendees participated in a unique bus tour led by LGL’s Board Chair Vladimir Simonko. The tour took attendees around places of historic interest with regard to the LGBT* community of Vilnius, both past and present.
The event was organized as part of the project “Consolidating Sustainable Development of National Equality and Diversity Forum (NEDF)” which is supported by the NGO Programme Lithuania funded by EEA Grants.
