European Diversity Awards 2014 launched today
The search for Europe’s most deserving diversity champions is underway after the 2014 European Diversity Awards were launched in Madrid on the 6th of March.
Now in their fourth year, the European Diversity Awards recognize people, organizations and businesses promoting equality and diversity across the continent.
Business leaders, media professionals and representatives of cultural and charitable organizations joined a glitzy reception at Google’s Spanish HQ to mark the start of the nomination process on the 6th of March.
Last year, LGBTI winners included British charity Stonewall and lesbian Paralympian Claire Harvey while French politician Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin won the Lifetime Achievement Award for a long career championing equality issues in France, including her work pushing same-sex marriage.
Awards founder Linda Riley said: ‘It is wonderful so many people, especially leaders from business and industry from right across Europe, joined us at the launch.
‘Their attendance demonstrates diversity has moved up the agenda to become a very important and strategic issue for many companies.’
The 2014 awards ceremony will take place at London’s Natural History Museum in October, hosted by lesbian BBC newsreader Jane Hill.
